June 2017
Welcome to Fifth Grade!
I am very excited to know that you will be in my class next year! Your final year of elementary school is sure to be an engaging year of investigations, study, and celebration. I am confident that it will be a year you’ll long remember.
To prepare for fifth grade, I encourage you to READ throughout the summer and come to school prepared to tell all us all about the great new books we should read! You should write often (keep a journal or send postcards), and practice your math facts and concepts; there are some great websites out there like www.tenmarks.com, www.thatquiz.org and www.khanacadamy.org. If you do these things for just a little while each day, you’ll be amazed at how much you remember come September! It is important to maintain the skills that you have worked hard to develop over the past few years.
On the first day of school I expect you to bring the supplies listed on the back of this letter. If you have any questions concerning the supply list, please let me know and we'll work together to get what you need. I would also like you to bring one memento from your summer. This can be a map of somewhere you went, a souvenir or a picture from something fun you did. Be prepared to share some stories about your summer adventures.
Please check my website www.MrsMalms5thgrade.weebly.com (which can also be accessed through the Claypit Hill page) over the summer and as it gets close to the start of school. Here you will see important dates and information. Parents, you should receive an email from me toward the end of August, definitely before school starts. If you do NOT receive an email please notify me. I gather emails through the schools iPass system, if you have changed your email recently and have not updated it with the school, I will likely not have the most current email address for you.
I am really looking forward to getting to know you. I think fifth grade will be your greatest year!
Have a happy, healthy, and relaxing summer!
Mrs. Malm
**PARENT NOTE**
I know there are lots of very neat and unique supplies for school out there now. I ask that when shopping for school supplies, you stick to the basics. Some of these fun items can serve as more of a distraction for our students and the students around them rather than their intended function. Also, please know that anything that comes to school above and beyond what is listed may be donated to the class for future use later in the year.
Also toys like spinners and putty are NOT allowed in class.
Thanks for your understanding.
